Why do ladies in South East Asia hate having tans or being dark?
When I went to visit South East Asia, all the girls there were frightened about getting tanned. Then had long sleeves, rode their motorcycles with jackets on (it's like 40 degrees!). I almost freaked out on a massause cause she was going to put on "whitening" skin cream on me, she later explained that everyone does it.
So why are people in South East Asia so afraid of getting tanned? What's the taboo?
Lol imagine u asking a dark skinned person how much more darker shade he'd like his skin to be lol….Chigga people who have natural climatic tans do not want more tanned skin as they r highly conscious of being dark and usually people crave for fair skin which is so much more common among the europeans and the americans whereas people who have fair skin want to have that certain amount of tan glow so that they can purge their paler versions. Opposite attracts is quite a terminology to be used here. Those who have proper tan do not think anything but if at all they want fair skin they sure wud run away from getting tanned more so.
People in asia who maybe fair to an extent still crave the fairness to the likes of Americans and the same applies when americans see a properly tanned skin they also want a good tan.
Also getting too tanned will not make them attractive among asians lol but they can become hot cakes for foreigners like u :-p
In Asia u'd mostly find sunscreen lotions and whitening skin creams where as in States or European countries u'd easily find tanning lotions.
Lol at 40 degrees who'd want to get roasted like a Chicken LMAO no wonder they were not ready to expose.

i think its because in southeast asia people are already tan because of the temperature and its totally rare and unique to have white skin..

Is it because we are basically dark, seldom are those who have white skin, We believe having whiter skin is attractive to everyone. If you have a fair skin mostly they are more confident than those who have dark skin. We are also very particular with the colors of the suits we wear If we have fair complexion we can wear any colored suits where are dark skinned girls prefer to wear white, black, brown and colors that does not emphasized the color of the skin. (I'm not speaking in behalf of South East Asian Girls) is just happen that I'm from South East Asia.

that mentality has something to do with the fact that most asians have these standards in beauty: white and creamy complexion and mestiza looks.
when i was a child, i used to dislike my color. i envied my western-born filipino-american / filipino-european cousins as they have white complexions and looked so western. thus, i'd put on whitening lotion as a kid.
it was only when i was in high school that i learned to appreciate my color when my european friends told me that i have such beautiful coloring. exotic, they'd describe.
now i appreciate the person that i am and has come to accept the differences in each person.

Darker skins are associated with "lower class" people who work outside doing manual labour. The paler your skin is, the more "refined" you are and the more socially acceptable (and sexually desirable to men). I think this is probably the same for African-Americans – (e.g. Halle Berry vs a black-skinned woman). People the world over prefer other people who have lighter skin and finer features than other people of their race and women pick up on this unspoken preference and adhere to it.

it is unnecessary to tanned our skin. Well, though not everybody is light in complexion, nor tanned too much, but the sunny day always put us in a natural tanned skin, and all the year round we have a tremendouz exposure to the sun light. it is better to protect our skin, but actually unecessary to whitening the skin.
Culturaly, light complexion is preferably because its like a noble complexion based on the history.

why do many western women don't like to have white or being pale?
they (western women) prefer to get tan,some even use a tan bath machine at home,they explain that tan make them look hotter,that can freak me out. and u know, get tan by sun bath can cause a skin cancer.

There's no taboo. It is purely vanity.
Reasons are simple:
(A) If you work outside (farmer, construction worker etc.), you
1) tend to get dark/tan
2) tend to be lower income
compared to if you work inside (office, commerce etc).
(B) People tend to want what they don't have, i.e., light skin is attractive in countries where the majority of the people are born with tanned skin.
(C) These issues are in TH exacerbated by that the facial features deemed attractive are found in the north of TH, where people's skin has a light color and by the fact that the urban elite often have blood-lines linked to Chinese immigrants who (100 years ago or so) entered trade/commerce as they were not allowed to be come farmers

Just like the white people wants to get tanned, the colored people wants to get white. I guess it's innate to everyone to love something which is impossible to get.
